Another year has passed and maybe it is a good time to sum up the legal penalties imposed on telemarketers.
The first major precedent happened in 2005 when DirectTV had to settle at $5.3 million for broadcasting unsolicited messages.
The year of 2007 saw six settlements the largest being Craftmatic at $4.4 (they make adjustable beds, imagine how many adjustable beds they’d need to make in order to cover this fee). Federal Trade Commission also charged several other companies like ADT, Ameriquest Mortgage, Guardian Communications, and a some of their affiliates.
All these legal fines occurred because of Do Not Call List violations. Most companies providing voice broadcast and telemarketing solutions are warning their clients to maintain the legality of their business. Are we going telemarketing free? At least in USA unsolicited calls have dropped significantly.
