USA is plagued with unsolicited telemarketing calls. According to Smartcompany.com.au, the average American person receives 30 telemarketing calls each month. This is partly down to local characteristics and the government policy. However, there are countries where unsolicited telemarketing calls are almost eliminated.
One of them is Australia, where the average citizen receives only 12 cold calls per month. We had a feature recently about the Australian Do Not Call list where we discussed the situation that Australian businesses will have to support the management of the national DNC list.
Australian people have recognized the Do Not Call list as a surefire way to keep the telemarketers at bay. According to Smartcompany, the DNC list receives approximately 80,000 new applications every day. There are more than 2 million households on the DNC Telemarketing list in Australia. If the current rate is maintained, it will take just over 6 years for all Oz people to vanish from the telemarketing scope!
Direct marketing people are frustrated. What will come next? How about Do Not Come To My Doorstep list? ![]()

The way this is written - I am unsure whether the businesses in Australia are trying to get in on the DNC list or not? Can you elaborate a little?
LOL…What will come next? How about Do Not Come To My Doorstep List?
…well, actually I was reading yesterday that there are something like 10 states in America that are looking to get rid of junk mail. A total ban of junk mail in these states may come to fruition sooner that you think.
SCARY for the economy and SCARY for business owners.
No, in fact Australian businesses have to provide money so that the government could manage the DNC list. So, basically, if you want to do some telemarketing in Australia, you will have to pay government extra money.
Australian citizens are the ones who are trying to get on the DNC list, because they don’t want to receive those cold calls
As to junk mail, aargh! That’s unbelievable. I hope there will be no bans.
Thanks for the interesting comment, anyway.
Great Job
