Brace Yourself for a New Wave of Begging Calls

Relationships Marketing, a fundraising company based in London, United Kingdom has started a campaign to get their hands on people who are registered with Telephone Preference service (TPS is a British alternative of Do Not Call list).

They are calling for the government to rethink their policy and allow charities making calls to households which have entered TPS. The fact is that more than 50% of British households have listed their numbers with the TPS and now charities and fundraisers find it really difficult to squeeze money out of the remainder.

However, you have to remember that a nuisance is a nuisance wherever it comes from. If I have Continue Reading…

Treat Telemarketers With a Colt

Oh no, no, I’m not suggesting you replicate the wild West and shoot all naughty telemarketers. This is a different type of Colt, it is Project COLT, a joint USA and Canadian telemarketing fraud watchdog. But this is not a usual pen-pushing dog. In its first 10 years of successful operation, COLT has seized almost $25 million that people had lost to fraudulent telemarketers.

You might say it is not much but hey, somebody has to do something, and obviously the thousands of telemarketing victims, who have found redemption with a helping hand of COLT, are over the moon. However, strictly speaking, these $25 million is a drop in a duck-pond. During these ten years people on both sides of Continue Reading…

USA is Too Deep into IVR Telephony

Interactive Voice Recognition systems or IVR are very popular across the globe. Many companies with larege client databases – such as wireless operators and insurance brokers – could’t imagine their life without IVR. Meanwhile customers who expect that a human advisor would deal with their problems are often left disappointed due to a poor quality of Interactive Voice Response systems.

Embarq, one of the major USA internet service providers, has just published a press release, which shows them as heroes of similar stature to Batman and Superman. The story is that they have re-opened a human customer care representative call centre. As many as 15 representatives will deal with customer enquiries along with the traditional IVR system.
