In business to business cold calling there are certain techniques to grab the attention of your target audience. Endless fights against unsolicited phone calls have made cold calling a hard task, so the old techniques when a seller called and offered his product straight away do not work any more. These methods of cold calling are a waste of time. In order to succeed in your telemarketing campaign, you have to do some preliminary work.

  • Develop and hone an advertising phrase - it should describe you, your company or your product. Think about something catchy yet avoid straightforward humour.
  • In the first instance you have to create positive attitude towards you. This is done by saying the person's name you speak to.

So always make a research and have the information on what is the full name of the person you should speak to. Saying, "Hello, I am Mr Brown, I want to introduce a product that could boost your business" would end in a hang-up.
  • Before cold calling do a research on the competitors of the niche your potential customer work within. For example, if you are offering stationery and office supplies to law firms via cold calling, it always helps if you have supplied your stationery to any other law firm before or you know of a law firm using similar office supplies.

Mention their competitors when cold-calling.

An ideal cold calling technique is when you can mention your potential customer's competitors in your conversation. In that case they become anxious and pay more attention to what you say during your cold call. For example "Hello, Mr Green. This is John Brown calling from Office Supplies Ltd. How are you? We have helped Law Firm 2 Ltd (the competitor) cutting their administrative costs. I am calling you to make an appointment so that I could tell you how we could help you cutting your costs as well. Is Wednesday 2pm convenient for you?"

This cold calling technique can bring you more success. If Mr Green says No, don't give up. Read the article about turning around a negative response.
